How to Stop Washing Your Oily Hair Everyday
Hello! Today I wanted to talk to you guys about oily hair. I am not sure how many of you out there have it but if you do, you know exactly what kind of pain it can be. I have struggled with that my whole life.
My skin is generally very oily and therefore my scalp, which transfers the grease over to my hair. This means that I have to wash my hair everyday otherwise it looks like I dipped it in a vat of oil. Its not a good look, believe me. My hair is also pretty thin which makes things worse because there’s nothing to absorb the oil. People with thicker hair can can away with it much better. To top it all off I have ends that tend to split easily and if you dry them out too much it just looks like somebody was pulling at my hair. All of this being said, I would not trade my oily skin for anything in the WORLD! Why? Well because oilier skin means less wrinkles as you age.
For years I have tried many different shampoos in hopes that something would do the trick! Unfortunately, I have had no luck. I have tried cheap shampoos, expensive shampoos and everything in between to no avail. With most shampoos I don’t really see a difference and with some I do but its not for the better. I have used shampoos (usually the moisturizing kind) which make my hair need a wash before the end of the day (considering that I washed it in the morning). Now let me start off by saying that shampoos made for oily hair are not easy to come by (at least not the U.S). Shampoos for oily roots and dry ends are even harder to find. But even so, when you do find them, they tend not to work.
The Solution
After much searching I gave a very unexpected contender a try and fell in love! L’oreal’s Elvive Extraordinary Clay Shampoo. This is a shampoo for oily roots and dry ends. The shampoo claims to provide 48 hours of purified roots and hydrated ends for fresh flowing hair. It lives up to its claim. While, I still have to wash my hair every other day, I can go to work two days between washes and that is saying a lot for me! Keep in mind these two days my hair looks pretty good.
L’oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Shampoo $3.99:
This shampoo has won the Allure Best Of Beauty Award in 2017, along with its conditioner. Both of These retail for less than $5.00. You can get these in both Europe and the U.S and probably in Asia and Australia. I have several different links through this post so that you can buy it from where ever works best for you.
How I use it
Normally what I do is I have two different shampoos and I try to switch off between the two, every other day or every so often. Since I started using this shampoo however, I have been using it pretty consistently because I like it so much. I use whatever conditioner I have (currently the Herbal Essences Refresh Blue Ginger Foam Conditioner ), which I probably will NOT be repurchasing. I really wanted to try it out due to the foam. Its okay but nothing special.
Day 1: I use this shampoo with whatever conditioner I have, and it works just fine. I will however buy the one it comes with in the future as its also won the Allure Award and I think it would pair well together. My hair looks extraordinary! Its not too soft, it has body and just the right amount of texture. It makes it look thick and just perfect! No styling products necessary!
Day 2: Not as fresh as day one but it’s in fine enough condition that you can comb it and it does not look like you dunked in oil.
For the second day I also like to use a little dry shampoo for that extra oil elimination and some volume! I like to use Hask’s Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo. I prefer this dry shampoo because its light and refreshing, it does not have a strong smell and it is made from rice starch which does not leave that white powder residue everywhere.
